On 11 to 15 January 2016, telecommunication engineering class of 2012 carried out an excursion program to Singapore. Their destination there consisted of companies, startups, and universities. This event was attended by 39 students of the class.
On their first day, the group had flown from Soekarno Hatta International Airport (CGK) to Changi Airport (SIN). The group was divided into smaller groups and boarded at different times. On their five days visit, the groups stayed at a hostel in Geylang Rd.
On their second day, the class visited some of the destinations Singapore was well-known for, like the Merlion Statue and the Marina Bay Sands. Next they went to the first major event of going to iExperience compant in Esplanade. The company works in fields like Internet of Things and Smart Devices. They also works together with the government of Singapore for developing smart government. There, they were shown smart devices like 3D printer, smart parking, smart post box, smart kitchen, and many others.
After their trip in iExperience, they went to PCI limited. They went there using MRT and then picked up by a person from PCI. The company is known for developing hardware mainly PCBs, and also application hardware for microwave engineering and embedded system. They were explained many products engineered by PCI at the present and future.
On their third day, the class went to one of the most famous university in Singapore, the National University of Singapore (NUS). There, they were greeted by a representation from Indonesian student group that studies there. They were given a tour around NUS, like the library, and the campus merchandise store. They also discussed about campus life and the study curriculum in NUS.
After the tour at NUS, they were given a chance to go to a startup company, DropMySite, Gentay, and Handyapps. DropMySite works on cloud backup and database. Then, their group is split into 2 groups of 10 students, the first one went to Gentay, and the other went to HandyApps. Each companies develop applications on Android and iOS.
On the fourth day, they went to a famous engineering university in Singapore, Nanyang Technological University (NTU), they were greeted by a rep from the campus. The group toured around campus, to their satellite and fiber optic lab. They were also attended a seminar about the study programs in NTU, one of the most lucrative part is their Ph.D progam.
Before they went home, the group also went sightseeing around Singapore, to Botanical Garden, adn other malls around the country. They went back to Indonesia at Friday, 15 January 2016
